Salted Snowy Pine Cones

With a few simple materials, a touch of creativity and a little imagination, we will not only bring the charm of a snowy forest right into our homes, but we will also create memories of a beautiful winter day by turning the products that nature gives us into festive ornaments. With pinecones, salt and glue, join me on a crafting journey that captures the serene beauty of winter and the magic of Christmas!

We will need:

  • Pine cones
  • Salt, coarse and fine
  • Liquid transparent glue
  • Vinegar
  • Gloves


How to:

  1. In a bowl with water and a few tablespoons of vinegar, wash the pine cones and transfer them to paper towels to drain.
  2. Then place the pine cones on a baking tray with foil and bake at 250 - 265 oF (120 - 130 oC) for 20 min. Do not remove the pine cones from the oven while they are still warm.
  3. Leave the pine cones indoors for 2 days to dry out completely and open.
  4. In a bowl, mix coarse and fine salt.
  5. Wear gloves and spread the glue on the pine cones.
  6. Roll the pine nuts in the salt and place them on a foil lined baking sheet.
  7. Sprinkle with fine salt and bake at 250 oF (120 oC) for 10 min to remove the moisture from the salt. Leave them in the oven while they are still warm.
  8. Our pine cones are ready to decorate your home!

Note from Greek jar:

If you want to add some sparkle, sprinkle the pine cones with glitter in the shades you like. I sprinkled some of them with glitter in silver and the rest I just left them with their...snow!

I tried stick glue instead of liquid glue. But I ended up preferring the liquid form, because it creates some fibers on the pine cones and along with the fine salt, it gives a special

touch.

In areas with a humid climate, the salt may regain moisture after two weeks. If this bothers you, bake the pine nuts once again at 250 oF (120 oC) for 10 min. I mention this because I noticed that when the wind changed from north to south, some moisture appeared in the salt, which disappeared as soon as the wind became northerly.
