Nestled between the Aegean Sea and the Pagasetic Gulf, Pelion has become a place where every time I visit, I discover something new to admire and love. This magical peninsula, wrapped in lush forests, dotted with charming villages, and embraced by beautiful beaches, holds a special place in my heart.
According to Greek mythology, Pelion was the summer retreat of the Olympian gods, a place where they sought refuge away from the towering peaks of Mount Olympus. It’s not hard to see why… Surely, they too were enchanted by the breathtaking landscapes, the refreshing sea breeze, and the rich vegetation that thrives in every corner of this land.
Pelion is the ultimate destination for every season. In spring, you will walk through dense chestnut and olive forests, watching nature awaken. On summer afternoons, you will sink your feet into the golden sands of Mylopotamos, Fakistra, and Agios Ioannis, diving into the crystal-clear waters that rejuvenate both body and soul. In autumn, nature explodes in vibrant colors, turning every stroll into a fairytale-like experience. And in winter, you will ski down the slopes of the Ski Center, enjoying the panoramic view of the Aegean while wrapped in the crisp mountain air.
The villages of Pelion look like they’ve come straight out of a fairytale. I have wandered through the cobbled streets of Makrinitsa, Tsagarada, Zagora, Portaria, Milies, and Vizitsa, discovering elegant traditional mansions, cozy tavernas, and squares shaded by ancient plane trees. Every visit is always accompanied by warm hospitality. The locals offer traditional pies, aromatic tsipouro, and stories from Pelion’s mythical past. After all, this was also the land of the wise Centaur Chiron.
Whether I explore it on foot, by car, or on the historic Pelion train, every journey is just as magical as the destination itself. Pelion is not just a place to visit… It is a place to live, to love, and to return to again and again.
